Robert (Bob)'s Story
Hello Canada. I've been living on the tropical island of Guam for the last 25 years. This is where my "island girl" wife was born and raised. She passed away last year from cancer, 3 days after our 30 year wedding anniversary. I live in a house surrounded by jungle with two of my children. Our oldest is stationed in Japan with the US army. He has done the Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq drill, so its nice he can live without being shot at. For now. I used to do A LOT of scuba diving. I make a living as financial controller of a local telecommunications company. Yes, I did actually get a business degree from U of A! Can't say if/when I'll ever go back to Canada. Probably retire in the Philippines, which is not far from here. Who can predict? Am still on Guam (March 2014) with my 27 yr old girlfriend (we've been together 3+ yrs) but may move to Palau, an island a few hund...Expand for more
red miles south of here. Can stay at my friend's beachfront house if I do the yard maintenance. Possibly work part time. Permits should be OK. My friend's cousin s the current president of that beautiful island. OR may move to Bangkok, as my friends who live there now love it, and tell me I would find it fits in well with my unmarried (widower) status. Do a bit of teaching is very possible per my friends there. I cannot afford to retire in Canada or the mainland USA or Guam for that matter. Third world tropical countries are my option. I hear Cambodia is a cheap place to live, with an "interesting" night life. All my "plans" for old age became irrelevant when my wife died. I guess I'll just drift from one unknown locale to the next while I still have life. I cannot imagine returning to Canada to live, despite what a beautiful country it is. Too cold, too expensive.
